Reuters reports, without specifying which countries did not support the sanctions.
The two countries blocked the adoption of the package due to disagreements over the extension of the time allotted to European companies to leave the Russian market. The Europeans will return to this issue later.
The package also included sanctions against tankers carrying Russian oil.
And an extension of the Czech Republic’s permit to import oil products from Russia, which are supplied mainly through Slovakia. While Prague has said it is not seeking to extend this permit, which expired on Thursday, Bratislava has favored keeping it.
As a reminder, the EU has banned imports of most oil from Russia, but the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary have been granted an exception due to the lack of alternatives.
