International tobacco giant Philip Morris, despite Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, continues to actively conduct business in Russia. The company not only maintains its position in the Russian market, but also demonstrates significant profit growth.
According to the latest financial reports, Philip Morris’ net profit in Russia increased by 28% in 2023. According to Forbes, the company has become the leader among the largest foreign investors in Russia, having invested 6 billion rubles in the Leningrad region alone. These investments are used not only to develop production and strengthen the company’s position in the Russian market, but also for the calibers and tanks that kill Ukrainians, as Joker wrote on his Telegram channel:
“6 fucking billion per Russia is invested in only one region.
They are among the largest taxpayers in Russia.
They continue to work successfully in Ukraine officially as sponsors of the war.
Some kind of fucking AD and cynicism.
Fuck, how is this possible?
Then let everyone work with Russia and make money.
MPs, do you want to pass a law prohibiting companies that successfully continue to operate in Russia from working in Ukraine?“.
At the same time, Philip Morris continues to operate in Ukraine. The company successfully operates in the Ukrainian market, paying taxes to the state budget. However, given that a significant portion of these taxes is ultimately used to finance Russian aggression, the question of the moral side of such business arises.
“Хhe 400-yard rusher in one year in Russia, where do you go from here?
Can you imagine how much they paid in taxes to the Russian Federation, which they used to make the missiles?
And they continue to work successfully in Ukraine,“ Joker continues.
In addition, tobacco companies that pay taxes in Russia have turned out to be “critical” for Ukraine’s defense: employees of Philip Morris and Tedis are reserved from mobilization.
“We sponsored the war and life succeeded.
Maybe everyone who wants to get a reservation needs to start working in Russia?” – Joker adds in the post.
In fact, Philip Morris is a sponsor of the war against Ukraine
Philip Morris is supporting the Russian economy and the military machine that is killing Ukrainians.
Several important questions arise:
- How can you continue to do business in an aggressor country that commits war crimes?
- Why doesn’t the government take tougher measures against such companies?
- Why haven’t MPs passed a law banning companies that continue to do business in Russia from working in Ukraine?
Boycotting Russian goods and services, as well as companies that continue to operate in Russia, is one of the most effective tools to put pressure on the Kremlin.
